My New Boyfriend

Just a quick story... Today I volunteered in Nathan's kindergarten class. When it was time to go, and the kids had lined up by the door to go outside for recess, one of the little boys called me over to him. I leaned over to find out what he wanted to tell me. He softly, but directly, told me, "you're beautiful." Did he really mean it? Does his dad make him say this to his mom so much that it's lost its meaning? Does the kid need a vision exam pronto? I don't know. All I do know is it truly made me smile.

I Might Have Stolen a Trash Can Today

Tuesday was trash day, and as usual, we put out our three trash cans--for trash, recyclables, and green waste. Somehow, at the end of the day, when we went to take the cans in...there were only two. The recyclables can was gone. The two logical choices of what happened were: (1) it blew to another nearby house because it was a really windy day, or (2) the trash company picked it up to replace it, something that happens once in a blue moon. Now, of course, there were plenty of illogical choices as to what happened, too: it grew legs and walked away because it was tired of being filled with our stinky junk, our neighbors stole it because it was soooo much cooler than their trash can, or it never existed at all and was only a figment of my imagination.

I called the trash company, and it was not set for replacement. So, that leaves the "it just blew away" theory, which is kind of weird, but I'll go with it. Empty trash cans with wheels are surprisingly prone to wind abuse. The trash company offered to send a replacement can yesterday, but it never arrived.

But today, while leaving to take Nathan to school, I noticed a lone recyclables trash can sitting about 100 yards from our house. I figured it had to be our missing can or the replacement can delivered to the wrong house. I knocked on the front door of the nearest home and there was no answer. So, I grabbed the can and dragged it back to our house. After all, isn't that standard operating procedure when you see something you want in front of a random house? First you knock on the door; if no one answers, anything you see is fair game for the taking. Right? Um, right? Hello?

Well, I still say that was our trash can. If nothing else...it is now.

Mud Puddle

When it rains too much or, as is much more frequent an occurrence, the sprinklers go on too long, a small mud puddle appears in our backyard. Evan discovered it today. I'll let the pictures tell the story...

The End.
